SPECIAL PRESENATION
The Honorable John Connors, state representative from Polk
County, introduced to the House, Kenneth M. Quinn, Ambassador
(retired) and Executive Director of the World Food Prize who
addressed the House chamber briefly regarding World Food Prize
recognition day. Ambassador Quinn introduced Nobel Laureate, Dr.
Norman Borlaug; John Ruan, chairman of the World Food Prize and
John Ruan III, chairman of Agriculture for the Chamber of
Commerce; several members of his staff and seven World Food Prize
Youth Institute international interns.
John Ruan addressed the House briefly commenting on the need
for involvement in the World Food Prize with a growing world
population and the greater need for food.
Dr. Borlaug addressed the House regarding the importance of his
Iowa roots in producing more food through new technology to
alleviate hunger around the world.
The House rose and expressed its welcome and appreciation.
Ambassador Quinn presented to Speaker Siegrist, Majority Leader
Rants and Minority Leader Schrader certificates awarding them for
their efforts on behalf of the World Food Prize.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
The Honorable Dan Boddicker, state representative from Cedar
County, introduced to the House Mrs. Opal Zesch who along with her
husband Earl, presented a check for $10,000 for restoration of the
Westward mural in the Capitol. Mr. and Mrs. Zesch are the parents
of Julie Livers, Director of the Legislative Information Office of the
Legislative Service Bureau. An additional $5000 was raised Monday
evening at a fund raiser for the mural restoration. Representative
Boddicker of Cedar thanked his fellow band members, Marijane
Euchner, Dave Suri, Mitch Smith and Kevin Garretson for their
efforts in helping to make the event a success.
The House rose and expressed its appreciation.
