Prayer was offered by Rabbi Applebaum of Beth El Jacob 
Synagogue, Des Moines.
The Journal of Thursday, January 28, 1999 was approved.
THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by pages Kelly Gallagher, Jessica 
Boddicker and Meredith Lorinser.
INTRODUCTION OF BILLS
House File 171, by Burnett, Mascher, Shoultz, Fallon, 
Parmenter, Ford, Holveck, Doderer, Chapman, and Myers, a bill for 
an act prohibiting discriminatory practices based upon a person's 
sexual orientation.
Read first time and referred to committee on judiciary.
House File 172, by committee on judiciary, a bill for an act 
relating to adoption procedural requirements including those related 
to investigations, reports, and counseling.
Read first time and placed on the calendar.
House File 173, by Kreiman, a bill for an act relating to the 
granting of visitation rights to a biological parent or grandparent in 
an adoption proceeding.
Read first time and referred to committee on human resources.
