  1  1    Section 1.  Section 176A.8, subsection 12, Code Supplement
  1  2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    12.  To expend the "county agricultural extension education
  1  4 fund" for salaries and travel, expense of personnel, rental,
  1  5 office supplies, equipment, communications, office facilities
  1  6 and services, and in payment of such other items as shall be
  1  7 is necessary to carry out the extension district program;
  1  8 provided, however, it shall be unlawful for the county
  1  9 agricultural extension council to lease any office space which
  1 10 is occupied or used by any other farm organization or farm
  1 11 cooperative, and provided further, that it shall be lawful for
  1 12 the county agricultural extension council to lease space in a
  1 13 building owned or occupied by a farm organization or farm
  1 14 cooperative.  
  1 15                           EXPLANATION 
  1 16    This bill amends Code chapter 176A, which is referred to as
  1 17 the "County Agricultural Extension Law".  Specifically, the
  1 18 Code chapter in part provides for the establishment of a
  1 19 county agricultural extension council for each extension
  1 20 district of the state.  The purpose of the council is to
  1 21 disseminate information and provide instruction regarding
  1 22 subjects relating to agriculture, home economics, and
  1 23 community and economic development.  Code section 176A.8
  1 24 provides that the council is responsible for managing the
  1 25 business affairs of its district.  It also provides that the
  1 26 council may manage a county agricultural extension education
  1 27 fund for a variety of purposes.  The bill removes a limitation
  1 28 that prohibits the council from using moneys in the fund to
  1 29 lease office space which is occupied or used by a farm
  1 30 organization or farm cooperative or to lease space in a
  1 31 building owned or occupied by a farm organization or farm
  1 32 cooperative.
