1 11 A Senate Resolution congratulating the Iowa State
1 12 Cyclones Men's Basketball Team.
1 13 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are greatly pleased
1 14 and justly proud that the Iowa State Cyclones Men's
1 15 Basketball Team won their second-ever championship at
1 16 the Big 12 Conference tournament, while also winning
1 17 their first conference title in 55 years; and
1 18 WHEREAS, the Iowa State Cyclones Men's Basketball
1 19 Team has set an all-time school record of 32 games won
1 20 this season, achieving the most total victories and
1 21 conference wins in school history and the largest
1 22 single-season win turn-around in school history; and
1 23 WHEREAS, the Iowa State Cyclones Men's Basketball
1 24 Team this year recorded its ninth 20-win season in
1 25 school history and achieved a school record of 13
1 26 straight victories, as well as recognition as USA
1 27 Today's "Team of the Week"; and
1 28 WHEREAS, the Iowa State Cyclones Men's Basketball
1 29 team advanced to the NCAA Midwest Region Sweet Sixteen
1 30 seeded No. 2, the highest NCAA seed in school
2 1 history, winning that game and advancing to the Elite
2 2 Eight; and
2 3 WHEREAS, individuals from the team have earned many
2 4 honors, among them first-team All American and first-
2 5 team all-Big 12 Conference by the Associated Press,
2 6 and have been named the Most Outstanding Player at the
2 7 Big 12 Conference Tournament and have been named to
2 8 the all-tourney squad; and
2 9 WHEREAS, individual team members have set a Big 12
2 10 tournament single-game record for rebounds, set a
2 11 single-game individual point record in a Big 12
2 12 Tournament game; and earned the Big 12 Conference
2 13 Player of the Year and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year
2 14 accolades; and
2 15 WHEREAS, Head Coach Larry Eustachy has been named
2 16 the Big 12 Coach of the Year for 2000, having taken a
2 17 team that was picked for last in a preseason poll to
2 18 the conference championship, and has been named League
2 19 Coach of the Year; and
2 20 WHEREAS, the Iowa State Cyclones Men's Basketball
2 21 Team and Coach Larry Eustachy and his coaching staff
2 22 have thrilled and delighted Iowans with their hard
2 23 work, teamwork, and well-deserved victories; NOW
2 24 THEREFORE,
2 25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 26 congratulates Coach Larry Eustachy and the Iowa State
2 27 Cyclones Men's Basketball Team on their superlative
2 28 season, thanks them for the honor and excitement they
2 29 brought to the State of Iowa, and wishes them the very
2 30 best in the future.
