1 1 Section 1. There is appropriated from the general fund of
1 2 the state to the department of education for the fiscal year
1 3 beginning July 1, 2000, and ending June 30, 2001, the
1 4 following amount, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to
1 5 be used for the purpose designated:
1 6 For the state library and for salaries, support,
1 7 maintenance, and miscellaneous purposes:
1 8 .................................................. $ 3,223,756
1 9 From the funds appropriated in this subsection, the sum of
1 10 $32,000 shall be used to promote libraries as community
1 11 centers for lifelong learning, encouraging reading and sharing
1 12 of family stories with children early in life, and
1 13 establishing nontraditional partnerships with libraries and
1 14 community and business groups.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill makes an appropriation for fiscal year 2000-2001
1 17 from the general fund of the state to the state library for
1 18 salaries, support, maintenance, and miscellaneous purposes,
1 19 and provides that $32,000 of the moneys appropriated must be
1 20 used to promote libraries as community centers, encouraging
1 21 reading and the sharing of family stories with children, and
1 22 to establish nontraditional partnerships with libraries and
1 23 community and business groups.
