1 1 Section 1. Section 70A.1, Code 1999, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new unnumbered paragraph after subsection 3:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. Notwithstanding any provision of
1 4 this section to the contrary, an employee of the department of
1 5 corrections may donate sick leave to another employee of the
1 6 department for a catastrophic illness incurred in the line of
1 7 duty. For purposes of this paragraph, "catastrophic illness"
1 8 means a physical illness or injury of the employee, as
1 9 certified by a licensed physician, that will result in the
1 10 inability of the employee to work for more than thirty
1 11 workdays on a consecutive or intermittent basis.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill provides that an employee of the department of
1 14 corrections can donate sick leave to another employee of the
1 15 department for a catastrophic illness incurred in the line of
1 16 duty. "Catastrophic illness" is defined to mean an injury or
1 17 illness that will result in the inability of the employee to
1 18 work for more that 30 workdays.
