1 1 Section 1. Section 456A.13, Code 1999, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 456A.13 OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES – PEACE OFFICER STATUS.
1 4 The director shall employ the number of assistants,
1 5 including a professionally trained state forester, that are
1 6 necessary to carry out the duties imposed on the commission;
1 7 and, under the same conditions, the director shall appoint the
1 8 number of full-time officers and supervisory personnel that
1 9 are necessary to enforce all laws of the state and rules and
1 10 regulations of the commission. The full-time officers and
1 11 supervisory personnel have the same powers that are conferred
1 12 by law on peace officers in the enforcement of all laws of the
1 13 state of Iowa and the apprehension of violators. A person
1 14 appointed as a full-time officer shall be at least twenty-one
1 15 years of age on the date of appointment and shall not be
1 16 employed as a full-time officer after attaining the age of
1 17 sixty-five. "Full-time officer" means any person who is
1 18 appointed by the director to enforce the laws of this state
1 19 and who is a certified law enforcement officer pursuant to
1 20 chapter 80B or has received a training extension pursuant to
1 21 section 80B.17.
1 22 Sec. 2. Section 461A.3, Code 1999, is amended by adding
1 23 the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 24 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. The commission shall provide
1 25 that each state park shall have the same number of full-time
1 26 officers assigned to enforce state laws and rules of the
1 27 department on and after January 1, 2001, that were assigned to
1 28 the state park on January 1, 1999.

1 30 EXPLANATION
1 31 This bill provides that the state conservation commission
1 32 shall provide that each state park shall have the same number
1 33 of full-time officers assigned to enforce state laws and rules
1 34 of the department on and after January 1, 2001, that were
1 35 assigned to the state park on January 1, 1999.
