  1  1    Section 1.  Section 68B.22, subsection 4, paragraph i, Code
  1  2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    i.  Nonmonetary items with a value of three five dollars or
  1  4 less that are received from any one donor during one calendar
  1  5 day.
  1  6    Sec. 2.  Section 68B.22, subsection 4, Code 1999, is
  1  7 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1  8    NEW PARAGRAPH.  r.  Items or services received at a group
  1  9 event not otherwise provided for in this subsection if all of
  1 10 the following apply:
  1 11    (1)  All members of the general assembly are invited to the
  1 12 group event.
  1 13    (2)  The computed value of items or services received by
  1 14 the anticipated number of invitees at the event does not
  1 15 exceed fifteen dollars per invitee.
  1 16    Sec. 3.  Section 68B.22, subsection 8, Code 1999, is
  1 17 amended to read as follows:
  1 18    8.  Except as otherwise provided in subsection 4, an
  1 19 organization or association which has as one of its purposes
  1 20 the encouragement of the passage, defeat, introduction, or
  1 21 modification of legislation shall not give and a member of the
  1 22 general assembly shall not receive food, beverages,
  1 23 registration, or scheduled entertainment with a per person
  1 24 value in excess of three five dollars.  
  1 25                           EXPLANATION
  1 26    This bill raises the maximum value of nonmonetary items
  1 27 from $3 to $5 that public officials, public employees,
  1 28 candidates, or members of the immediate family of public
  1 29 officials, public employees, or candidates may receive from
  1 30 any one donor during one calendar day.
  1 31    The bill allows public officials, public employees,
  1 32 candidates, or members of the immediate family of such people
  1 33 to receive items and services at a group event if all the
  1 34 members of the general assembly are invited to the group event
  1 35 and the computed value of the items or services received by
  2  1 the anticipated number of invitees does not exceed $15 per
  2  2 invitee.
  2  3    The bill raises the maximum value of food, beverages,
  2  4 registration, or scheduled entertainment from $3 to $5 that
  2  5 may be received by a member of the general assembly from an
  2  6 organization or association which has as one of its purposes
  2  7 the encouragement of the passage, defeat, introduction, or
  2  8 modification of legislation.
