  1  1    Section 1.  Section 99B.7, subsection 1, paragraph m,
  1  2 subparagraph (1), Code l999, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    (1)  The organization is eligible for exemption from
  1  4 federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4),
  1  5 501(c)(5), 501(c)(6), 501(c)(7), 501(c)(8), 501(c)(10), or
  1  6 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code as defined in section
  1  7 422.3, or in lieu of eligibility for exemption from federal
  1  8 income taxes, the organization is a parent-teacher
  1  9 organization or booster club that is recognized as a
  1 10 fundraiser and supporter for a school district organized
  1 11 pursuant to chapter 274 in a notarized letter signed by the
  1 12 president of the board of directors or the superintendent of
  1 13 the school district.  
  1 14                           EXPLANATION
  1 15    This bill authorizes an organization such as a parent-
  1 16 teacher organization or a booster club of a school district
  1 17 organized pursuant to chapter 274 to submit a notarized letter
  1 18 signed by the president of the board of directors or the
  1 19 superintendent of a school district recognizing the
  1 20 organization or club as a fundraiser and supporter for the
  1 21 school district as a substitute for eligibility for exemption
  1 22 from federal income taxes as a requirement to be a qualified
  1 23 organization to conduct raffles and games of skill or chance.
