1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 56.18A TAX CREDIT FOR
1 2 CONTRIBUTIONS.
1 3 A credit against taxes pursuant to section 422.12,
1 4 subsection 4, shall be allowed for a contribution to a
1 5 candidate for an office representing the state legislative
1 6 district in which the contributor permanently resided at the
1 7 time the contribution was made, not to exceed one hundred
1 8 dollars per person per candidate. Upon request by the state,
1 9 the contributor shall substantiate the claimed credit with an
1 10 official receipt from the candidate's committee to which a
1 11 contribution was made.
1 12 Sec. 2. Section 422.12, Code 1999, is amended by adding
1 13 the following new subsection:
1 14 NEW SUBSECTION. 4. A tax credit for political
1 15 contributions pursuant to section 56.18A.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 New Code section 56.18A provides that persons who
1 18 contribute to a candidate for the Iowa general assembly who is
1 19 running in the person's legislative district may claim a tax
1 20 credit of up to $100 per candidate. A conforming amendment is
1 21 made to Code section 422.12 regarding the tax credit.
