1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 56.18A TAX CREDIT FOR POLITICAL
1 2 COMMITTEE CONTRIBUTIONS.
1 3 A credit against taxes pursuant to section 422.12,
1 4 subsection 4, shall be allowed for fifty percent of total
1 5 monetary contributions to political committees organized under
1 6 section 56.5, not to exceed a total credit of one hundred
1 7 dollars per contributor. Upon request by the department of
1 8 revenue and finance, the contributor shall substantiate the
1 9 claimed credit with official receipts from all political
1 10 committees to which contributions were made.
1 11 Sec. 2. Section 422.12, Code 1999, is amended by adding
1 12 the following new subsection:
1 13 NEW SUBSECTION. 4. A tax credit for political committee
1 14 monetary contributions pursuant to section 56.18A.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 New Code section 56.18A provides that persons who make
1 17 monetary contributions to political committees organized in
1 18 Iowa may claim a tax credit equal to 50 percent of total
1 19 contributions, up to a total credit of $100 per contributor.
1 20 A conforming amendment is made to Code section 422.12
1 21 regarding the tax credit.
