1 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY DVORSKY and BOLKCOM
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution relating to racist activities
1 4 intended to harass students and faculty at the
1 5 University of Iowa.
1 6 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are outraged by the
1 7 recent electronic messages containing racist remarks
1 8 and threats directed at members of the University of
1 9 Iowa community; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa condemn the racially
1 11 charged acts and destruction of property intended to
1 12 intimidate students and faculty at the University of
1 13 Iowa; and
1 14 WHEREAS, the racist remarks, racially charged acts,
1 15 and the destruction of property are overwhelmingly
1 16 recognized to be abhorrent to the principles and
1 17 sensibilities of Iowans; and
1 18 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa recognize that racist
1 19 remarks, racially charged acts, and physical
1 20 destruction of property will not deter the University
1 21 of Iowa's efforts to educate members from all segments
1 22 of society; NOW THEREFORE,
1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 24 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
1 25 Assembly commends the University of Iowa community for
1 26 supporting those who have been targeted by the racist
1 27 remarks and racially charged acts; and
1 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa General
1 29 Assembly commends the persons marching at the
1 30 University of Iowa on April 11, 2000, for showing
2 1 their support for solidarity against racist
2 2 activities.
