  1  1          SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.     
  1  2 A Concurrent Resolution relating to the observation
  1  3    of the decade of the bone and joint.
  1  4    WHEREAS, one in every seven Americans reports a
  1  5 musculoskeletal impairment; and
  1  6    WHEREAS, musculoskeletal conditions and deformities
  1  7 deprive children of normal development; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, musculoskeletal impairments are the
  1  9 highest ranking impairment for both men and women, and
  1 10 arthritis is the leading chronic condition reported by
  1 11 the elderly; and,
  1 12    WHEREAS, in the United States, alone,
  1 13 musculoskeletal conditions are estimated to cost $215
  1 14 billion annually; and,
  1 15    WHEREAS, scientific evidence supports the efficacy
  1 16 of early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of these
  1 17 diseases; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, musculoskeletal research currently is at
  1 19 the precipice of major breakthroughs that likely will
  1 20 change and simplify the way bone and joint disorders
  1 21 are treated and prevented throughout the world; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, many countries and international
  1 23 organizations have joined together to recognize the
  1 24 years 2000 through 2010 as the "Bone and Joint Decade"
  1 25 to increase public awareness of this problem and to
  1 26 promote research to find the cure for musculoskeletal
  1 27 impairments; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 28    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
  1 29 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the General Assembly
  1 30 recognizes the years 2000 through 2010 as the "Bone
  2  1 and Joint Decade."
