1 2 BY GRONSTAL
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution designating a week in September
1 4 1999 as Iowa Education Week.
1 5 WHEREAS, providing Iowa's school children with
1 6 educational opportunities and excellent education
1 7 programs is critical to the prosperity of the state as
1 8 a whole and to the success of each child in achieving
1 9 their life aspirations; and
1 10 WHEREAS, it is vital that the importance of
1 11 education be recognized by society and by the branches
1 12 of state government responsible for supporting the
1 13 educational institutions of this state; NOW THEREFORE,
1 14 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 15 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the General Assembly
1 16 designate a week in September 1999 as Iowa Education
1 17 Week during which the General Assembly encourages its
1 18 own members, communities, schools, and all citizens to
1 19 participate in activities in recognition of the
1 20 importance of education to all Iowans, including but
1 21 not limited to participation by legislators and
1 22 government leaders, educators, community leaders, and
1 23 others in "read-ins" held to emphasize the importance
1 24 of acquiring basic educational skills; and
1 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the General Assembly
1 26 requests the Governor to issue a proclamation calling
1 27 upon the people of Iowa to observe the same week in
1 28 September 1999 as Iowa Education Week.
