1 3 #1. Page 1, by striking lines 1 through 26 and
1 4 inserting the following:
1 5 "Section 1. FUNDING OF COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT
1 6 SERVICES.
1 7 1. For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001, and
1 8 for subsequent fiscal years, a county shall budget and
1 9 fund enforcement services of the office of county
1 10 sheriff from the rural services fund only if the
1 11 county budgeted and funded the law enforcement
1 12 services of the office of county sheriff in whole or
1 13 in part from the rural services fund for the preceding
1 14 fiscal year.
1 15 2. Subsection 1 shall not apply to counties after
1 16 the last day of the regular session of the general
1 17 assembly which convenes following the final
1 18 disposition of litigation pending before the district
1 19 court of Lyon or Story county addressing the issue of
1 20 funding of the law enforcement services of the office
1 21 of county sheriff, whichever decision is issued last,
1 22 and after the recommendations of the study committee
1 23 have been submitted."
