1 2 #1. Page 24, by inserting after line 12 the
1 3 following:
1 4 "Sec. . Section 256.7, subsection 21, paragraph
1 5 a, Code 1999, is amended to read as follows:
1 6 a. Requirements that all school districts and
1 7 accredited nonpublic schools develop, implement, and
1 8 file with the department a comprehensive school
1 9 improvement plan that includes, but is not limited to,
1 10 demonstrated school, parental, and community
1 11 involvement in assessing educational needs,
1 12 establishing local education standards and student
1 13 achievement levels, and, as applicable, the
1 14 consolidation of federal and state planning, goal-
1 15 setting, and reporting requirements. The state board
1 16 shall also require that school districts and
1 17 accredited nonpublic schools implement a policy which
1 18 requires a student to be able to satisfactorily
1 19 demonstrate that the student is able to adequately
1 20 read, write, and perform basic mathematical
1 21 computation skills prior to graduation."
