1 1 Section 1. Section 9E.6, subsection 1, Code 1999, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. c. Execute and submit an official bond in
1 4 the amount of ten thousand dollars. The bond shall be
1 5 executed by a surety company authorized to do business in the
1 6 state, and shall not be a deposit in lieu of bond.
1 7 EXPLANATION
1 8 This bill establishes a requirement that persons applying
1 9 to be a notary public post a $10,000 bond, in addition to the
1 10 current requirements of completing the application and
1 11 submitting a $30 fee.
1 12 Code chapter 666 provides that official bonds are to be
1 13 construed as security for the public or governmental body
1 14 which the public officer serves.
