PAG LIN 1 1 HOUSE FILE 2531 1 2 1 3 AN ACT 1 4 RELATING TO SERVICES PROVIDED BY COUNTY OFFICERS INCLUDING 1 5 FUNDING FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AND THE DISPOSITION 1 6 OF LOST PROPERTY. 1 7 1 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 1 9 1 10 Section 1. Section 135.25, Code 1999, is amended to read 1 11 as follows: 1 12 135.25 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FUND. 1 13 An emergency medical services fund is created in the state 1 14 treasury under the control of the department. The fund 1 15 includes, but is not limited to, amounts appropriated by the 1 16 general assembly, and other moneys available from federal or 1 17 private sources which are to be used for purposes of this 1 18 section. Funds remaining in the fund at the end of each 1 19 fiscal year shall not revert to the general fund of the state 1 20 but shall remain in the emergency medical services fund, 1 21 notwithstanding section 8.33. The fund is established to 1 22 assist counties by matching, on a dollar-for-dollar basis, 1 23 moneys spent by a county for the acquisition of equipment for 1 24 the provision of emergency medical services and by providing 1 25 grants to counties for education and training in the delivery 1 26 of emergency medical services, as provided in this section and 1 27 section 422D.6. A county seeking matching funds under this 1 28 section shall apply to the emergency medical services division 1 29 of the department. The department shall adopt rules 1 30 concerning the application and awarding process for the 1 31 matching funds and the criteria for the allocation of moneys 1 32 in the fund if the moneys are insufficient to meet the 1 33 emergency medical services needs of the counties. Moneys 1 34 allocated by the department to a county for emergency medical 1 35 service purposes may be used for equipment or training and 2 1 education as determined by the board of supervisors pursuant 2 2 to section 422D.6. 2 3 Sec. 2. Section 556F.7, Code 1999, is amended to read as 2 4 follows: 2 5 556F.7 WHEN OWNER UNKNOWN. 2 6 If the owner is unknown, the finder shall, within five days 2 7 after finding the property, take the money, bank notes, and a 2 8 description of any other propertybeforeto the countyauditor2 9 sheriff of the countywhereor the chief of police of the city 2 10 in which the property was found, and provide an affidavit 2 11 describing the property, the time when and place where the 2 12 property was found, and attesting that no alteration has been 2 13 made in the appearance of the property since the finding. The 2 14 sheriff or chief of police shall send a copy of the affidavit 2 15 to the county auditor who shall enter a description of the 2 16 property and the valuethereofof the property, as nearly as 2 17 the auditor can determine it, in the auditor's lost property 2 18 book, together with the copy of the affidavit of the finder. 2 19 Sec. 3. Section 556F.8, Code 1999, is amended to read as 2 20 follows: 2 21 556F.8 ADVERTISEMENT. 2 22 The finder ofsuchthe lost goods, money, bank notes, or 2 23 other things, shallforthwithgive written notice of the 2 24 finding ofsuchthe property.SuchThe notice shall contain 2 25 an accurate description of the property and a statement as to 2 26 the time when and place where the same was found, and the 2 27 post-office address of the finder.SaidThe notice shall: 2 28 1.
