1 4 PROVIDING CIVIL AND CRIMINAL IMMUNITY FOR A SCHOOL
1 5 EMPLOYEE RELATED TO THE EMPLOYEE'S PARTICIPATION IN
1 6 REPORTING AND INVESTIGATING VIOLENCE, THREATS OF VIOLENCE,
1 7 OR OTHER INAPPROPRIATE ACTIVITY AGAINST A SCHOOL EMPLOYEE
1 8 OR STUDENT IN A SCHOOL BUILDING, ON SCHOOL GROUNDS, OR AT
1 9 A SCHOOL-SPONSORED FUNCTION.

1 11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 13 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 280.27 REPORTING VIOLENCE –
1 14 IMMUNITY.
1 15 An employee of a school district, an accredited nonpublic
1 16 school, or an area education agency who participates in good
1 17 faith and acts reasonably in the making of a report to, or
1 18 investigation by, an appropriate person or agency regarding
1 19 violence, threats of violence, or other inappropriate activity
1 20 against a school employee or student in a school building, on
1 21 school grounds, or at a school-sponsored function shall be
1 22 immune from civil or criminal liability relating to such
1 23 action, as well as for participating in any administrative or
1 24 judicial proceeding resulting from or relating to the report
1 25 or investigation.
1 26 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 613.20 IMMUNITY FROM CIVIL SUIT.
1 27 An employee of an accredited public school district,
1 28 accredited nonpublic school, or area education agency shall be
1 29 immune from civil suit for reasonable acts undertaken in good
1 30 faith relating to participation in the making of a report and
1 31 any resulting investigation or administrative or judicial
1 32 proceedings regarding violence, threats of violence, or other
1 33 inappropriate activity against a school employee or student,
1 34 pursuant to the provisions of section 280.27.
