1 1 Section 1. Section 321.252, Code 1999, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new unnumbered paragraph after unnumbered
1 3 paragraph 2:
1 4 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. The department shall establish,
1 5 by rule, requirements for distance signs on primary interstate
1 6 highways, including for the placement and content of such
1 7 signs. The rules shall include a provision requiring a
1 8 distance sign on a primary interstate highway to list the next
1 9 proximate county seat or incorporated community having a
1 10 population of at least five hundred if the primary interstate
1 11 highway runs through or within five miles of the county seat
1 12 or incorporated community.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill directs the state department of transportation to
1 15 establish, by rule, requirements for distance signs on primary
1 16 interstate highways. The rules are to include a provision
1 17 requiring a distance sign on a primary interstate highway to
1 18 list the next proximate county seat or incorporated community
1 19 having a population of at least 500 if the primary interstate
1 20 highway runs through or within five miles of the county seat
1 21 or incorporated community.
