1 1 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraph b,
1 2 Code Supplement 1999, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 b. Upon written application on forms furnished by the
1 4 department, the department shall issue annually without fee
1 5 one deer or one wild turkey license, or both, to the owner of
1 6 a farm unit or to a member of the owner's family, but not to
1 7 both, and to the tenant or to a member of the tenant's family,
1 8 but not to both. If a person is eligible for a free deer or
1 9 wild turkey hunting license pursuant to this subsection and
1 10 applies for the free license not later than twenty-four hours
1 11 before the opening day of the hunting season to which the free
1 12 license applies, the department shall issue the free license
1 13 before the opening day of the hunting season. The deer
1 14 hunting license or wild turkey hunting license issued shall be
1 15 valid only on the farm unit for which an applicant qualifies
1 16 pursuant to this subsection and shall be equivalent to the
1 17 least restrictive license issued under section 481A.38. The
1 18 owner or the tenant need not reside on the farm unit to
1 19 qualify for a free license to hunt on that farm unit. A free
1 20 deer hunting license issued pursuant to this subsection shall
1 21 be valid during all shotgun deer seasons.
1 22 EXPLANATION
1 23 This bill provides that a landowner or tenant or a member
1 24 of their respective families who are eligible for a free deer
1 25 or wild turkey hunting license may apply for, not later than
1 26 24 hours before the opening day of hunting season, and receive
1 27 the free license before the opening day of hunting season.
