  1  1    Section 1.  1999 Iowa Acts, chapter 208, section 23,
  1  2 subsection 2, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    2.  For a contract to purchase, internet connectivity from
  1  4 an internet service provider which provides a filtering
  1  5 software company, internet filter services for school
  1  6 districts who wish to receive such services:  
  1  7 .................................................. $     50,000
  1  8    The department of education shall work with the boards of
  1  9 directors of school districts and area education agencies in
  1 10 establishing service requirements and selecting an internet
  1 11 service provider a filtering software company to provide
  1 12 internet filter services through servers located at the area
  1 13 education agencies.  The goal of providing a filtering service
  1 14 to a school district is to protect students from inappropriate
  1 15 internet websites and to promote the use of the internet for
  1 16 educational purposes.  School districts that wish to receive
  1 17 filtering services shall assume the ongoing costs of the
  1 18 services.
  1 19    Sec. 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act, being deemed of
  1 20 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment.  
  1 21                           EXPLANATION
  1 22    This bill replaces the term "internet service provider"
  1 23 with the term "filtering software company", in an Act enacted
  1 24 during the general assembly's 1999 session.  The bill takes
  1 25 effect upon enactment.
