  1  1    Section 1.  Section 157.3, subsection 1, paragraph d, Code
  1  2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    d.  Passes an examination prescribed by the board.  The
  1  4 examination may shall include both practical demonstrations
  1  5 and written or oral tests and shall not be confined to any
  1  6 specific system or method.  However, a member of the board who
  1  7 is a licensed instructor of cosmetology arts and sciences
  1  8 shall not be involved in the selection or administration of
  1  9 the exam examination.  
  1 10                           EXPLANATION
  1 11    This bill requires a cosmetology arts and sciences
  1 12 practitioner licensing examination to include a practical
  1 13 demonstration component.  Currently, Code section 157.3
  1 14 provides that a licensing examination may include a practical
  1 15 demonstration, but does not require that a practical
  1 16 demonstration be incorporated in addition to a written or oral
  1 17 test.
