  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraph b,
  1  2 Code 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    b.  Upon written application on forms furnished by the
  1  4 department, the department shall issue annually without fee
  1  5 one deer or one wild turkey license, or both, to the owner of
  1  6 a farm unit or to a member of the owner's family, but not to
  1  7 both, and to the tenant or to a member of the tenant's family,
  1  8 but not to both.  The deer hunting license or wild turkey
  1  9 hunting license issued shall be valid only on in the county in
  1 10 which the farm unit for which an of the applicant qualifies
  1 11 pursuant to this subsection is located and in any adjoining
  1 12 county, and shall be equivalent to the least restrictive
  1 13 license issued under section 481A.38.  The owner or the tenant
  1 14 need not reside on the farm unit to qualify for a free license
  1 15 to hunt on that in the county in which the farm unit is
  1 16 located and in any adjoining county.  A free deer hunting
  1 17 license issued pursuant to this subsection shall be valid
  1 18 during all shotgun regular gun deer seasons.  
  1 19                           EXPLANATION
  1 20    This bill provides that the free deer hunting license and
  1 21 free wild turkey hunting license issued to an owner, tenant,
  1 22 or a family member are valid for hunting within the county in
  1 23 which the farm unit is located and in any adjoining county.
  1 24    The bill also changes a reference to a shotgun deer season
  1 25 to a regular gun deer season which would allow these persons
  1 26 to hunt with shotguns and muzzle loaders.
