1 1 Section 1. STATE COURTS – SALARIES – MAGISTRATES.
1 2 1. The following annual salary rates shall be paid to the
1 3 persons holding the judicial positions indicated for the
1 4 fiscal year beginning July 1, 1999, with the pay period
1 5 beginning June 25, 1999, and for subsequent fiscal years and
1 6 pay periods until otherwise provided by the general assembly.
1 7 a. Each judicial magistrate licensed to practice law in
1 8 the state:
1 9 .................................................. $ 29,000
1 10 b. Each judicial magistrate not licensed to practice law
1 11 in the state:
1 12 .................................................. $ 25,000
1 13 2. The salaries provided for in this section shall be paid
1 14 from funds appropriated to the judicial branch from the salary
1 15 adjustment fund or if the appropriation is not sufficient,
1 16 from the funds appropriated to the judicial branch pursuant to
1 17 any Act of the general assembly.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This bill provides for the salaries to be paid to judicial
1 20 magistrates beginning with the pay period commencing on June
1 21 25, 1999, and continuing for subsequent pay periods and fiscal
1 22 years until the general assembly provides otherwise. The bill
1 23 establishes that the annual salary for lawyer judicial
1 24 magistrates will be $29,000 and for nonlawyer judicial
1 25 magistrates will be $25,000. Current law provides that all
1 26 judicial magistrates will be paid an annual salary of $23,100.
1 27 The bill also provides that the salaries shall be funded from
1 28 moneys appropriated to the judicial branch.
