  1  1    Section 1.  Section 6B.8, Code 1999, is amended to read as
  1  2 follows:
  1  3    6B.8  NOTICE OF ASSESSMENT.
  1  4    The applicant, or the owner or any lienholder or
  1  5 encumbrancer of any land described in the application, may, at
  1  6 any time after the appointment of the commissioners, have the
  1  7 damages to the lands of any such owner assessed by giving the
  1  8 other party, if a resident of this state, ten thirty days'
  1  9 notice, in writing.  Such notice shall specify the day and the
  1 10 hour when the commissioners will view the premises, and be
  1 11 served in the same manner as original notices.  
  1 12                           EXPLANATION 
  1 13    Current law on the condemnation process allows a
  1 14 condemnation applicant, a landowner, or a lienholder or other
  1 15 encumbrancer of the land to request an assessment of damages
  1 16 to the land being condemned.  The party requesting the
  1 17 assessment is required to give 10 days' prior notice to the
  1 18 other parties of the day and hour of the assessment by the
  1 19 compensation commissioners.
  1 20    This bill increases the amount of notice to 30 days.
