1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 10A.403 INVESTIGATORS – PEACE
1 2 OFFICER STATUS.
1 3 Investigators of the division shall have the powers and
1 4 authority of peace officers when acting within the scope of
1 5 their duties as an investigator for the department.
1 6 Sec. 2. Section 801.4, subsection 11, Code 1999, is
1 7 amended by adding the following new paragraph after paragraph
1 8 i and relettering the subsequent paragraph:
1 9 NEW PARAGRAPH. j. Investigators of the department of
1 10 inspections and appeals as provided in section 10A.403.
1 11 EXPLANATION
1 12 This bill provides that investigators employed within the
1 13 investigations division of the department of inspections and
1 14 appeals shall have the power and authority of a peace officer
1 15 while performing their job as an investigator. Peace officer
1 16 status permits a person to, among other things, issue
1 17 misdemeanor summons, petition a search warrant, and make an
1 18 arrest.
