1 1 Section 1. Section 162.13, Code 1999, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. A commercial breeder who
1 4 crossbreeds a dog with a wolf or offers for sale or sells a
1 5 wolf dog crossbreed is guilty of a simple misdemeanor as
1 6 provided in section 351.44. The secretary may suspend or
1 7 revoke the license of a commercial breeder who violates
1 8 section 351.44.
1 9 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 351.44 CROSSBREEDING DOGS WITH
1 10 WOLVES AND SALE OF WOLF DOG CROSSBREEDS PROHIBITED – PENALTY.
1 11 1. A person shall not crossbreed a dog with a wolf.
1 12 2. A person shall not offer for sale or sell a wolf dog
1 13 crossbreed.
1 14 3. A person who violates subsection 1 or 2 is guilty of a
1 15 simple misdemeanor.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill prohibits a person, including a commercial
1 18 breeder, from crossbreeding a dog with a wolf or offering for
1 19 sale or selling a wolf dog crossbreed. A violation is
1 20 punishable as a simple misdemeanor. The secretary of
1 21 agriculture may also suspend or revoke the license of a
1 22 commercial breeder who violates this prohibition.
