PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 257.6, subsection 1, paragraph f, Code 1 2 1999, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 f. Resident pupils receiving competent private instruction 1 4 under dual enrollment pursuant to chapter 299A shall be 1 5 counted as one-tenth of one pupil if enrolled in fewer than 1 6 three academic courses, two-tenths of one pupil if enrolled in 1 7 three academic courses, and three-tenths of one pupil if 1 8 enrolled in more than three academic courses. For purposes of 1 9 this paragraph, "academic course" means a course taken for 1 10 credit in accordance with section 256.11, subsection 5, or a 1 11 class that meets the requirements of section 256.11, 1 12 subsection 3 or 4, in which the pupil participates in 1 13 accordance with section 299A.8. 1 14 Sec. 2. This Act, being deemed of immediate importance, 1 15 takes effect upon enactment and applies to the school 1 16 enrollment count taken on September 17, 1999. 1 17 EXPLANATION 1 18 This bill provides an increasing weighted enrollment scale 1 19 for dual enrollment students. Students enrolled in a private 1 20 course of instruction, but also enrolled in a public school 1 21 taking fewer than three public school courses, shall receive 1 22 an enrollment weighting of one-tenth of one pupil. Students 1 23 taking three courses shall be weighted at two-tenths of one 1 24 pupil. Students taking more than three courses shall be 1 25 weighted at three-tenths of one pupil. The bill provides that 1 26 "academic course" means a course taken for credit pursuant to 1 27 Code section 256.11, subsection 3, 4, or 5. 1 28 The Act takes effect immediately upon enactment and applies 1 29 to school enrollment count taken the third Friday of September 1 30 of 1999. 1 31 LSB 1543HH 78 1 32 rn/gg/8
