1 8 "Sec. . IOWA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT
1 9 SYSTEM – HEALTH CARE BENEFIT. The Iowa public
1 10 employees' retirement system division shall conduct a
1 11 study to consider various proposals to provide persons
1 12 covered under the Iowa public employees' retirement
1 13 system a basic health insurance plan available to
1 14 members of the system who retire under normal
1 15 retirement requirements. In conducting its study, the
1 16 Iowa public employees' retirement system division
1 17 shall consider health insurance options available
1 18 through the Iowa public employees' retirement system
1 19 that would cover individuals and their spouses until
1 20 reaching the age of 65. The study is to include
1 21 recommendations including the feasibility of allowing
1 22 members to pay into a special fund through their Iowa
1 23 public employees' retirement system contributions that
1 24 would be accessed to pay for health insurance upon
1 25 retirement and before reaching the age of 65, as well
1 26 as whether this option would require an increase in
1 27 employee contributions. On or before September 1,
1 28 2001, the Iowa public employees' retirement system
1 29 division shall file a report with the legislative
1 30 service bureau, for distribution to the public
1 31 retirement systems committee established in section
1 32 97D.4, which contains its findings and
1 33 recommendations, including any proposal or proposals
1 34 for providing health care benefits for persons covered
1 35 by the Iowa public employees' retirement system. The
1 36 report shall also contain any applicable actuarial
1 37 information concerning the costs of any proposal or
1 38 proposals included in the report.""
