1 1 Amend the Committee amendment, H-1618, to Senate
1 2 File 464, as amended, passed, and reprinted by the
1 3 Senate, as follows:
1 4 #1. Page 11, by inserting before line 26 the
1 5 following:
1 6 "Sec. 201. EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR GRANT REALLOCATION
1 7 FOR A SCHOOL VIOLENCE CRISIS INTERVENTION TASK FORCE.
1 8 1. Notwithstanding section 8.33 and section
1 9 256.22, subsection 4, and in addition to the
1 10 provisions of section 8 of this Act, from the funds
1 11 appropriated in 1998 Iowa Acts, chapter 1216, section
1 12 1, subsection 1, to the department of education for
1 13 extended school year grants, which remain unencumbered
1 14 or unobligated on June 30, 1999, the sum of $65,000
1 15 shall not revert to the general fund of the state and
1 16 shall not be available for expenditure for the
1 17 following fiscal year for purposes of extended school
1 18 year grants, but shall be reallocated by the
1 19 department to the department of education for purposes
1 20 of the school violence crisis intervention task force
1 21 established pursuant to this section.
1 22 2. The director of education shall collaborate
1 23 with the commissioner of public safety and the
1 24 attorney general to appoint members to and organize a
1 25 school violence crisis intervention task force to
1 26 review the preparedness of public school districts to
1 27 react to or prevent violent crisis situations. The
1 28 director, in consultation with the commissioner and
1 29 the attorney general, shall invite participation on
1 30 the task force from other appropriate agencies,
1 31 associations, and law enforcement officials. The task
1 32 force shall develop guidelines that can be utilized by
1 33 school districts to raise their level of awareness and
1 34 preparedness to respond to violent crisis situations.
1 35 The task force shall provide its recommendations in a
1 36 report to the general assembly by December 1, 1999."
1 37 #2. Page 27, by inserting after line 29 the
1 38 following:
1 39 " . Section 201 of this Act, relating to the
1 40 extended school year grant reallocation for a school
1 41 violence crisis intervention task force, being deemed
1 42 of immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment".
1 43 #3. By renumbering, relettering, and redesignating
1 44 as necessary.
