1 11 "Sec. . BOARD OF EDUCATIONAL EXAMINERS PILOT
1 12 PROGRAM STUDY. The board of educational examiners
1 13 shall develop and implement a one-year pilot study to
1 14 assess the performance of teacher education graduates
1 15 in the areas of content and pedagogy using a
1 16 standardized, national assessment, which may be
1 17 modified to meet the information needs of the board.
1 18 The purpose of the pilot study is to measure an
1 19 education graduate's knowledge in the graduate's
1 20 chosen major field and the graduate's attained level
1 21 of pedagogy, to establish baseline data on graduates,
1 22 and to determine whether successful completion of a
1 23 standardized assessment should be required of all
1 24 education graduates prior to initial licensure.
1 25 Individual assessment results from this study shall
1 26 not prohibit an individual from receiving an initial
1 27 teaching license under this chapter if the individual
1 28 meets all other qualifications for licensure. By
1 29 January 15, 2001, the board of educational examiners
1 30 shall submit its recommendations in a report
1 31 summarizing the results of the pilot study to the
1 32 chairpersons and ranking members of the senate and
1 33 house standing education committees and of the joint
1 34 subcommittee on education appropriations."
