  1  1    Amend House File 744 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 2, by inserting after line 4 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  Section 422.12, Code 1999, is amended
  1  5 by adding the following new subsection:
  1  6    NEW SUBSECTION.  2A.  a.  A volunteer emergency
  1  7 medical services personnel credit equal to one hundred
  1  8 fifty dollars.  However, if the individual is not a
  1  9 volunteer emergency medical services personnel for the
  1 10 entire tax year, the one hundred fifty dollar credit
  1 11 shall be prorated and the amount of credit shall equal
  1 12 one hundred fifty dollars, divided by twelve,
  1 13 multiplied by the number of months in the tax year the
  1 14 individual was a volunteer.  The credit shall be
  1 15 rounded to the nearest five dollars.  If the
  1 16 individual is a volunteer during any part of a month,
  1 17 the individual shall be considered a volunteer for the
  1 18 entire month.
  1 19    b.  (1)  A volunteer fire fighter credit equal to
  1 20 the appropriate credit amount as set out in
  1 21 subparagraph (2).  However, if the individual is not a
  1 22 volunteer fire fighter for the entire tax year, the
  1 23 appropriate credit amount shall be prorated and the
  1 24 amount of credit shall equal the appropriate credit
  1 25 amount, divided by twelve, multiplied by the number of
  1 26 months in the tax year the individual was a volunteer.
  1 27 The credit shall be rounded to the nearest five
  1 28 dollars.  If the individual is a volunteer during any
  1 29 part of a month, the individual shall be considered a
  1 30 volunteer for the entire month.
  1 31    (2)  The appropriate credit amount equals one
  1 32 hundred dollars for a volunteer fire fighter who has
  1 33 completed a twenty-four hour basic fire fighter course
  1 34 and one hundred fifty dollars for a volunteer fire
  1 35 fighter who has a fire fighter I certification.  In
  1 36 order to continue to receive the credit under this
  1 37 paragraph "b", a fire fighter who has completed a
  1 38 twenty-four hour basic fire fighter course must
  1 39 complete twelve hours of continuing education every
  1 40 two years, and a fire fighter with a fire fighter I
  1 41 certification must complete twenty hours of continuing
  1 42 education every two years.
  1 43    c.  If the individual is a volunteer fire fighter
  1 44 and an emergency medical services personnel during the
  1 45 same month, a credit may be claimed for only one
  1 46 volunteer position for that month.
  1 47    d.  The individual is required to have a written
  1 48 statement from the fire chief or other appropriate
  1 49 supervisor verifying that the individual was a
  1 50 volunteer fire fighter who has met the education
  2  1 requirements or was a volunteer emergency medical
  2  2 services personnel for the months for which the credit
  2  3 under paragraph "a" or "b" is claimed."

  2  5 word "credits," the following:  "and providing a
  2  6 credit for volunteer fire fighters and emergency
  2  7 medical services personnel,".
