  The Senate met in regular session at 10:08 a.m., President Kramer
  presiding.

  Prayer was offered by Reverend Linda Hansen Bibb and Reverend
  Stephen Bibb, pastors of the United Methodist Church, Corwith, Iowa.

  The Journal of Thursday, April 2, 1998, was approved.

  BILL REFERRED TO COMMITTEE

  Senator Iverson asked and received unanimous consent that
  House File 2496 be referred from the Unfinished Business Calendar
  to the committee on Appropriations.

  QUORUM CALL

  Senator Iverson requested a non-record roll call to determine that
  a quorum was present.

  Senator Hedge took the chair at 10:18 a.m.

  The vote revealed 32 present, 18 absent, and a quorum present.

  CONSIDERATION OF BILL
  (Appropriations Calendar)

  Senator Iverson asked and received unanimous consent to take up
  for consideration House File 2539.
