  Dear Secretary Gunderson:

  This is to notify you of the illness of Senator Kay Hedge. This illness
  prevents
  Senator Hedge from performing his duties as Chairman of the Senate Ethics
  Committee.

  As there is business before the Ethics Committee which must be disposed of,
  I am
  making a temporary appointment of Vice-chairman Dick Drake to acting
  chairman of
  the Ethics Committee pursuant to Senate rule 34. In addition, I am making a
  temporary appointment of myself to the committee. These appointments will
  expire
  upon Senator Hedge's return to the Senate.
