One Hundred Second Calendar Day - Sixty-sixth Session Day Hall of the House of Representatives Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday, April 24, 1997 The House met pursuant to adjournment at 8:50 a.m., Speaker Corbett in the chair. Prayer was offered by Reverend Steve Pike, Martelle Christian Church, Martelle. The Journal of Wednesday, April 23, 1997 was approved. LEAVE OF ABSENCE Leave of absence was granted as follows: Ford of Polk, until his arrival, on request of Schrader of Marion. SENATE MESSAGES CONSIDERED Senate File 530, by committee on ways and means, a bill for an act relating to the establishment of an E911 surcharge, providing for the distribution of the surcharge, and providing a pooling mechanism for the purchase of equipment necessary for an E911 system. Read first time and referred to committee on commerce-regulation. Senate File 543, by Iverson and Gronstal, a bill for an act relating to public retirement systems by providing for the effectiveness of termination provisions of a school district retirement system, and by providing for the exclusion of certain publicly elected officials from membership, and the calculation of dividends for certain retirees, under the Iowa public employees' retirement system. Read first time and referred to committee on state government. MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE The following message was received from the Senate: Mr. Speaker: I am directed to inform your honorable body that the Senate has on April 23, 1997, amended and passed the following bill in which the concurrence of the House is asked: House File 674, a bill for an act providing a cause of action against the state for wrongful imprisonment.
