1 1 Section 1. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION – STAFF DEVELOPMENT
1 2 FUND FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGES. There is appropriated from the
1 3 general fund of the state to the department of education for
1 4 the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1998, and ending June 30,
1 5 1999, the following amount, or so much thereof as is
1 6 necessary, to be used for the purpose designated:
1 7 For salary supplements in the amount of $2,000 for each
1 8 nonsupervisory, professional full-time equivalent position
1 9 filled at each community college:
1 10 .................................................. $ 4,000,000
1 11 By August 1, 1998, each community college shall certify to
1 12 the department of education the total number of
1 13 nonsupervisory, professional full-time equivalent positions
1 14 filled at each community college. If funds appropriated under
1 15 this section are insufficient for the purposes of this
1 16 section, the department of education shall prorate the funds
1 17 appropriated to the community colleges based upon each
1 18 community college's share of the total number of
1 19 nonsupervisory, professional full-time equivalent positions
1 20 filled by the community colleges.
1 21 EXPLANATION
1 22 This bill appropriates to the department of education, from
1 23 the general fund of the state, $4 million to pay for salary
1 24 supplements in the amount of $2,000 for each nonsupervisory,
1 25 professional full-time equivalent (FTE) position filled by
1 26 each community college. Each community college shall certify
1 27 the total number of nonsupervisory, professional full-time
1 28 equivalent positions it has filled, and the if the funds are
1 29 insufficient to pay $2,000 for each FTE, the department is
1 30 directed to prorate the $4 million to the community colleges
1 31 based upon each community college's share of the total number
1 32 of nonsupervisory, professional full-time equivalent positions
1 33 filled by the community colleges.
