PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 279.32, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 1 2 1997, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 The board shall fix the compensation to be paid the 1 4 secretary.No member of the board shall receive compensation1 5for official services.The board may pay a school treasurer a 1 6 reasonable compensation. The board may compensate its members 1 7 on an annual salary basis or on a per diem basis. A board 1 8 shall not approve any change in its compensation in the months 1 9 of September and October of a regular school election year. A 1 10 change in the compensation of board members shall only become 1 11 effective for board members at the beginning of the term of 1 12 the board members elected at the election next following the 1 13 approval of the change in compensation. 1 14 EXPLANATION 1 15 This bill allows school district boards of directors to set 1 16 compensation for its members. The compensation may be granted 1 17 on an annual salary basis or on a per diem basis. A board may 1 18 not approve any change in compensation in September or October 1 19 of a regular school election year. The bill also provides 1 20 that a change in compensation is effective only for board 1 21 members elected at the election following the approval of the 1 22 change in compensation. 1 23 LSB 3704XS 77 1 24 sc/sc/14
