1 1 Section 1. Section 450.2, Code 1997, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. Property passing from estates of
1 4 decedents dying on or after July 1, 1998, is not subject to
1 5 tax under this chapter. This chapter is repealed July 1,
1 6 1998, for property of estates of decedents dying on or after
1 7 July 1, 1998.
1 8 Sec. 2. Section 450.4, Code 1997, is amended by adding the
1 9 following new subsection:
1 10 NEW SUBSECTION. 7. On any property of an estate of a
1 11 person dying on or after July 1, 1998.
1 12 Sec. 3. This Act applies to estates of decedents dying on
1 13 or after July 1, 1998.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 Present law provides for exemptions from the state
1 16 inheritance tax of property of decedents passing to surviving
1 17 spouses, children including adopted children, stepchildren and
1 18 other biological children, mothers and fathers, and other
1 19 lineal ascendants and descendants. The bill eliminates the
1 20 state inheritance tax on all other property passing from
1 21 estates of persons dying on or after July 1, 1998.
