PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 321.180A, subsection 3, Code 1997, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 3. The permittee may apply for a motor vehicle license if 1 4 thirty days have elapsed since issuance of the special 1 5 instruction permit. The department shall issue a motor 1 6 vehicle license if the permittee is qualified, passes all 1 7 required tests, including a driving test, and pays the 1 8 required fees. If the person has not obtained a motor vehicle 1 9 license before expiration of the person's special instruction 1 10 permit, the person's former denial or suspension under section 1 11 321.177, subsection 6 or 7, or section 321.210, subsection 1, 1 12 paragraph "c", upon service of notice by the department, shall 1 13 be reinstated. A permit shall be reissued for one or more 1 14 additional six-monthperiodperiods if a permittee continues 1 15 to meet the qualifications of subsection 1 and has incurred no 1 16 motor vehicle violations. 1 17 EXPLANATION 1 18 Current law provides for the issuance of a six-month 1 19 special instruction permit to a person with a physical 1 20 disability. The permit may be reissued for one additional 1 21 six-month period. This bill authorizes the reissuance of such 1 22 a permit for multiple six-month periods. 1 23 LSB 3902XS 77 1 24 jm/sc/14
