PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 279.51, subsection 1, unnumbered 1 2 paragraph 1, Code Supplement 1997, is amended to read as 1 3 follows: 1 4 There is appropriated from the general fund of the state to 1 5 the department of education for the fiscal year beginning July 1 6 1, 1997, and each succeeding fiscal year, the sum offifteen1 7 twenty-seven million one hundred seventy thousand dollars. 1 8 Sec. 2. Section 279.51, subsection 1, paragraph b, Code 1 9 Supplement 1997, is amended to read as follows: 1 10 b. For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1997, and for 1 11 each succeeding fiscal year,eighttwenty million three 1 12 hundred twenty thousand dollars of the funds appropriated 1 13 shall be allocated to the child development coordinating 1 14 council established in chapter 256A for the purposes set out 1 15 in subsection 2 of this section and section 256A.3. 1 16 EXPLANATION 1 17 This bill increases annual state funding for programs for 1 18 at-risk children in order to provide statewide comprehensive 1 19 early child development services for at-risk four-year-old 1 20 children. The bill increases the statutory appropriation from 1 21 the state general fund to the department of education, and 1 22 increases the amount that is allocated to the child 1 23 development coordinating council from $8 million to $20 1 24 million. 1 25 LSB 3461XS 77 1 26 kh/jw/5
