  1  1    Section 1.  Section 232.2, subsection 6A, Code Supplement
  1  2 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    6A.  "Chronic runaway" means a child who is reported to law
  1  4 enforcement as a runaway more than once in any month thirty-
  1  5 day period or three or more times in any year.  
  1  6                           EXPLANATION
  1  7    This bill amends the definition of chronic runaway in the
  1  8 juvenile justice chapter, Iowa Code chapter 232, to change the
  1  9 language relating to the number of times that a runaway has
  1 10 been reported from once in "any month" to "any 30-day period".
  1 11 Currently, a chronic runaway is defined as a child who is
  1 12 reported to law enforcement as a runaway more than once in any
  1 13 month or three or more times in any year.
