PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 99B.7, subsection 1, paragraph c, Code 1 2 1997, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 c. Cash or merchandise prizes may be awarded in the game 1 4 of bingo and, except as otherwise provided in this paragraph, 1 5 shall not exceedonetwo hundred fifty dollars. A prize of 1 6 not more than one thousand dollars may be awarded at not more 1 7 than two games during a bingo occasion. Merchandise prizes 1 8 may be awarded in the game of bingo, but the actual retail 1 9 value of the prize, or if the prize consists of more than one 1 10 item, unit or part, the aggregate retail value of all items, 1 11 units or parts, shall not exceed the maximum provided by this 1 12 paragraph. A licensee shall not conduct more than three 1 13 jackpot bingo games during a bingo occasion.AEach jackpot 1 14 bingo game may be conducted once during anytwenty-four hour1 15 twenty-four-hour period in which the prize may begin at not 1 16 more thanthreefive hundred dollars in cash or actual retail 1 17 value of merchandise prizes and may be increased by not more 1 18 thanonetwo hundred dollars after each bingo occasion. 1 19 However, the cost of play in a jackpot bingo game shall not be 1 20 increased and the jackpot shall not amount to more thaneight1 21 two thousand five hundred dollars in cash or actual retail 1 22 value of merchandise prizes. A jackpot bingo game is not 1 23 prohibited by paragraph "h". A bingo occasion shall not last 1 24 for longer thanfoursix consecutive hours. A qualified 1 25 organization shall not hold more than fourteen bingo occasions 1 26 per month. Bingo occasions held under a limited license shall 1 27 not be counted in determining whether a qualified organization 1 28 has conducted more than fourteen bingo occasions per month, 1 29 nor shall bingo occasions held under a limited license be 1 30 limited tofoursix consecutive hours. With the exception of 1 31 a limited license bingo, no more than three bingo occasions 1 32 per week shall be held within a structure or building and only 1 33 one person licensed to conduct games under this section may 1 34 hold bingo occasions within a structure or building. A 1 35 licensed qualified organization shall not conduct free games. 2 1 However, a qualified organization, which is a senior 2 2 citizens' center or a residents' council at a senior citizen 2 3 housing project or a group home, may hold more than fourteen 2 4 bingo occasions per month and more than three bingo occasions 2 5 per week within the same structure or building, and bingo 2 6 occasions conducted by such a qualified organizationmay last2 7for longer than four consecutive hoursare not limited in 2 8 duration, if the majority of the patrons of the qualified 2 9 organization's bingo occasions also participate in other 2 10 activities of the senior citizens' center or are residents of 2 11 the housing project. At the conclusion of each bingo 2 12 occasion, the person conducting the game shall announce both 2 13 the gross receipts received from the bingo occasion and the 2 14 use permitted under subsection 3, paragraph "b", to which the 2 15 net receipts of the bingo occasion will be dedicated and 2 16 distributed. 2 17 Sec. 2. Section 99B.7, subsection 1, paragraph l, 2 18 subparagraph (2), Code 1997, is amended to read as follows: 2 19 (2) No free prize or other gift is given to a participant. 2 20 However, one or more door prizes of a value not to exceedten2 21 one hundred dollars each may be given by random drawing. 2 22 EXPLANATION 2 23 This bill provides a number of increases to the maximum 2 24 limits allowed for prizes for bingo games operated by 2 25 qualified organizations. The maximum prize for a bingo game 2 26 is increased from $100 to $250. During a bingo occasion, not 2 27 more than two games shall have a maximum prize of more than 2 28 $1,000. In addition, a licensee may conduct three separate 2 29 progressive jackpot bingo games not exceeding $2,500 each. 2 30 The progressive jackpot bingo begins at $500 and may increase 2 31 by not more than $200 during each bingo occasion during which 2 32 the prize is not won. A bingo occasion is increased from a 2 33 maximum of four hours to a maximum of six hours.
