1 1 Section 1. Section 400.17, unnumbered paragraph 4, Code
1 2 1997, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 A person shall not be appointed, promoted, discharged, or
1 4 demoted to or from a civil service position or in any other
1 5 way favored or discriminated against in that position because
1 6 of political or religious opinions or affiliations, race,
1 7 national origin, sex, or age. However, the maximum age for a
1 8 police officer or fire fighter covered by this chapter and
1 9 employed for police duty or the duty of fighting fires is
1 10 sixty-five years of age and the maximum age for the initial
1 11 appointment of a police officer or fire fighter not previously
1 12 employed as a police officer or fire fighter is thirty-three
1 13 years of age.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 This bill provides that the maximum age for the initial
1 16 appointment of a police officer or fire fighter not previously
1 17 employed as a police officer or fire fighter is 33 years of
1 18 age.
