  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  314.28  BARRIERS REQUIRED AT
  1  2 CONSTRUCTION SITES.
  1  3    The department shall provide, or require that a contractor
  1  4 performing highway maintenance or construction provide, a
  1  5 barrier of sufficient size and weight to protect workers at
  1  6 the site by diverting motor vehicles from the maintenance or
  1  7 construction area.  
  1  8                           EXPLANATION
  1  9    This bill requires the state department of transportation
  1 10 to utilize, and to require contractors to utilize, a barrier
  1 11 sufficient to divert motor vehicles from the lane of a highway
  1 12 which is closed and undergoing maintenance or construction.
