1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 514C.13 PROSTATE CANCER
1 2 SCREENING AND DIAGNOSIS BENEFITS.
1 3 1. Notwithstanding section 514C.6, a person who provides
1 4 an individual or group policy of accident or health insurance
1 5 or individual or group hospital or health care service
1 6 contract issued pursuant to chapter 509, 509A, 514, or 514A,
1 7 or an individual or group health maintenance organization
1 8 contract issued and regulated under chapter 514B, which is
1 9 delivered, amended, or renewed on or after July 1, 1997, shall
1 10 provide coverage for diagnostic screening for prostate cancer
1 11 including both of the following:
1 12 a. Medically recognized diagnostic testing, upon the
1 13 recommendation of a physician including, but not limited to, a
1 14 digital rectal examination and prostate-specific antigen test,
1 15 at any age for covered persons having a prior history of
1 16 prostate cancer.
1 17 b. An annual medically recognized prostate screening
1 18 diagnostic examination including, but not limited to, a
1 19 digital rectal examination and prostate-specific antigen test
1 20 for each of the following classifications:
1 21 (1) Asymptomatic men, aged fifty or older.
1 22 (2) African-American men, aged forty or older.
1 23 (3) Men with a family history of prostate cancer, aged
1 24 forty or older.
1 25 2. Preauthorization or precertification for benefits
1 26 provided under the coverage provided under this section shall
1 27 not be required.
1 28 EXPLANATION
1 29 This bill requires a person who provides an individual or
1 30 group policy of accident or health insurance or individual or
1 31 group hospital or health care service contract, or an
1 32 individual or group health maintenance organization contract,
1 33 which is delivered, amended, or renewed on or after July 1,
1 34 1997, to provide coverage for diagnostic screening for
1 35 prostate cancer. The bill provides that preauthorization or
2 1 precertification for benefits provided under such coverage
2 2 shall not be required.
