  1  1    Section 1.  Section 299.1A, Code 1997, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    299.1A  COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE AGE.
  1  4    A child who has reached the age of six and is under sixteen
  1  5 seventeen years of age by September 15 is of compulsory
  1  6 attendance age.
  1  7    Sec. 2.  IMPLEMENTATION OF ACT.  Section 25B.2, subsection
  1  8 3, shall not apply to this Act.  
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10    This bill raises the compulsory school attendance age from
  1 11 age 16 to age 17.
  1 12    This bill may include a state mandate as defined in Code
  1 13 section 25B.3.  This bill makes inapplicable Code section
  1 14 25B.2, subsection 3, which would relieve a political
  1 15 subdivision from complying with a state mandate if funding for
  1 16 the cost of the state mandate is not provided or specified.
  1 17 Therefore, political subdivisions are required to comply with
  1 18 any state mandate included in this bill.
