  1  1    Amend House File 382, as passed by the House, as
  1  2 follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 2, by inserting after line 30 the
  1  4 following:
  1  5    "Sec. ___.  NEW SECTION.  595.21  DOMESTIC
  1  6 PARTNERS.
  1  7    1.  Parties, who are domestic partners and who are
  1  8 not married, shall not be denied the benefits granted
  1  9 to married parties by virtue of the marriage
  1 10 relationship, if a marriage between the parties would
  1 11 not be valid pursuant to section 595.2, subsection 1.
  1 12    2.  The benefits which shall not be denied such
  1 13 unmarried parties include but are not limited to
  1 14 property rights, access to courts, parentage,
  1 15 inheritance, hospital or health care facility
  1 16 visitation, health decisions, contract rights,
  1 17 workplace benefits, insurance coverage, taxation
  1 18 benefits, retirement benefits, and federal or state
  1 19 benefits.
  1 20    3.  For the purposes of this section, "domestic
  1 21 partners" means parties who meet at least two of the
  1 22 following requirements:
  1 23    a.  Live together.
  1 24    b.  Have a close, personal relationship.
  1 25    c.  Are responsible for each other's welfare as
  1 26 evidenced by financial interdependence including but
  1 27 not limited to joint home ownership, common
  1 28 investments, or designating each other as
  1 29 beneficiaries.
  1 30    d.  Intend to be life partners."
  1 31    #2.  Title page, line 1, by inserting before the
  1 32 word "of" the following:  "and benefits of certain
  1 33 relationships and of".
  1 34    #3.  By renumbering as necessary.
