  1  1    Amend Senate Concurrent Resolution 15 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 1, by striking lines 5 through 16 and
  1  3 inserting the following:
  1  4    "WHEREAS, currently 242 people in this state are
  1  5 awaiting organ transplants including heart, lung,
  1  6 liver, kidney, and kidney-pancreas transplants; and
  1  7    WHEREAS, the number of organ donors in this state
  1  8 was only 55 in 1996; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, referrals from hospitals to organ
  1 10 procurement organizations are a necessary and
  1 11 important part of the anatomical gift process; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, referrals from hospitals to organ
  1 13 procurement organizations increased only slightly from
  1 14 1995 to 1996; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, the need for organ transplants continues
  1 16 to increase at a faster rate than organ donations, NOW
  1 17 THEREFORE,".
