1 2 #1. Page 11, by inserting after line 28 the
1 3 following:
1 4 "Sec. ___. INMATE TELEPHONE REBATE FUND –
1 5 DISTRIBUTION.
1 6 Notwithstanding contrary provisions of section
1 7 904.508A, there is appropriated from the inmate
1 8 telephone rebate fund created in section 904.508A for
1 9 the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1997, and ending
1 10 June 30, 1998, the following amounts, or so much
1 11 thereof as is necessary, to be used for the purposes
1 12 designated, and in the following priority:
1 13 1. To the department of corrections, for the
1 14 hiring of 12 additional correctional officers:
1 15 .................................................. $ 444,000
1 16 Of the additional correctional officers authorized
1 17 pursuant to this subsection, four officers each shall
1 18 be assigned to the Oakdale correctional facility, the
1 19 Mt. Pleasant correctional facility, and the Clarinda
1 20 correctional facility.
1 21 2. To the department of corrections, for the
1 22 operation of adult correctional institutions but only
1 23 to the extent necessary to ensure that correctional
1 24 officers authorized by section 5 of this Act shall be
1 25 hired and not laid off based on an inability to recoup
1 26 sufficient revenues from inmate earnings:
1 27 .................................................. $ 813,580
1 28 3. To the department of corrections, for
1 29 educational programs for inmates at state penal
1 30 institutions:
1 31 .................................................. $ 100,000
1 32 4. To the department of corrections, for the
1 33 implementation of a computer database to provide
1 34 inmate case management and offender profiling:
1 35 .................................................. $ 100,000
1 36 5. To the department of justice, for victim
1 37 assistance grants:
1 38 .................................................. $ 100,000
1 39 6. To the department of corrections and the
1 40 judicial district departments of correctional
1 41 services, for connecting all of its correctional
1 42 facilities and institutions to the Iowa communications
1 43 network (ICN):
1 44 .................................................. $ 100,000"
